What I love about homeschooling

I love being with my girls plain and simple! I love hearing their thoughts and witnessing their "AHA!" moments and knowing I was a part of it.

Being able to control their exposure to inappropriate influences. Children need to be given the opportunity to stay children and not be pushed into an adult world long before they're ready. Click HERE to read more.

Rosh Hashanah

Greek Honey Cake

This is a very good recipe but I remembered AFTER we baked it, I wanted to try incorporating the honey into the cake and forgo the honey sauce. You can find this recipe here.

For a more traditional honey cake recipe, go here.

Rosh Hashanah

Lokshin Kugel (noodle pudding) for Rosh Hashanah. This is the first time I'm trying this specific recipe. You can find the recipe here.

Note: After trying this recipe tonight, I have to say it's excellent! It looked like a lot of sugar, but it really is just enough! Two thumbs up! You can serve this either warm or cold. I prefer it warm.

What a fun project! Here's the recipe, but we adjusted it by adding 3 cups of flour.

Basic animal cell cookies from The Smelly Llama

Since Squirrel has been studying cells in science, I thought it would be fun to make cell cookies.

Fluffy Puppy was in charge of the cell membrane.

Having fun with the nuclei and cell membrane.

Our "cells" ready for the oven.

Definitely not the prettiest cookie we've ever made but they are delicious and were a lot of fun to make!

This recipe can be found here:

Note: I found I needed much more flour than the recipe called for.

Watermelon Smoothie from The Smelly Llama

This morning we decided to make smoothies.

Squirrel was in charge of the watermelon.

Fluffy Puppy added the yogurt.

I added the vanilla and ice. It called for sugar but I decided not to put it in because we were using Trix yogurt which has more sugar than regular yogurt (it's all we had). In the end, the girls felt like it needed to be a little sweeter so I added some sugar to their cups. I thought it was plenty sweet though. Next time I would add a banana for more flavor and a natural sweetener.

Squirrel posing with the blender.

Ready to fill up some empty bellies, or, in our case, spilled all over the table. :)
